The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation and is available for delivery in two ways. This is the traditional, instructor-led course where you will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end, with a hands-on practical portion conducted in a classroom and shooting range with an Instructor. We’ll cover safety, firearm parts and what they do, safely handling a firearm, storage, clearing malfunctions, cleaning and ammunition.

About your instructor:

Tim Ernst is a NRA-certified instructor in rifle and pistol with 20+ years of firearms experience. He founded RavenWood Training in 2016. Tim has taught youth in Rifle at the Falls Township Rifle and Pistol Association, he’s an Endowment Member of NRA, and a FTRPA member for over 15 years (trap, sporting clays, rifle, pistol, plinking). He has over 30 years of experience with hunting (bear, deer, waterfowl) and firearms. Participates in NRL22 as much as he can. Initially trained in the U.S. Navy, he’s also quite active in his community as a volunteer firefighter/engineer at a local fire company.

Tim is a NRA-Certified Instructor in the Rifle and Pistol disciplines. He’s also a range safety officer and has always enjoyed firearms, learning about firearms and history, as well as learning from his students as much as he instructs them.

Welcome to RavenWood Training!

Welcome Shooters!

I’m excited to offer NRA-ceritified instruction courses in rifle and pistol in the Eastern Montgomery County, PA with RavenWood Training. It all started for me during my time in the U.S. Navy, firearms training was a part of that first hot summer of plebe year at the U.S. Naval Academy and with that first hit of the target with my M16A1 at 100 yards I was hooked. Over the years I sought out more information on how to shoot, took courses, purchased a “few” firearms, talked to gun owners, explored the history of firearms and of course, joined the NRA.

The NRA has allowed me to support the 2nd Amendment, learn more and eventually become an instructor in both rifle and pistol. For me, a gun is a tool, and whether it’s hunting, personal protection, target shooting or the many shooting sports there is something interesting to learn, firearms to learn about and fun and knowledge to be gained. Our courses are designed to impart the maximum amount of information is a relaxed, fun environment and get you hands-on experience.

So whether you’re a new gun owner looking for answers or an experienced shooter looking to brush up on the fundamentals or correct a bad habit, RavenWood Training has a course or private lesson available for you. So if you have a new AR-15, or you inherited or saved up to purchase a slick pistol, I hope I can bring you the excitement and knowledge of learning to safely handle firearms.

Register today for a course or shoot us a message for a private lesson.

Thanks for looking and happy shooting, Tim
