Range: We’ll pick slots for the range time in the afternoon (taking two students at a time) to get some time shooting and handling the firearm(s).

NRA FIRST Steps Rifle is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific rifle action type for classes of four or fewer students. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific rifle action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular rifle model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the rifle; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet and FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.
Designed to teach new and beginning Rifle shooters a hands-on introduction of rifle safety, handling, proper loading and unloading and the basic shooting skills necessary to place bullets on a paper target at 50ft from the firing line. This course is designed to educate the shooter to a specific Rifle model, any caliber, preferably the participant’s rifle. If a student wishes to take the class and has not yet purchased a Rifle, one will be provided at class time. Price includes: NRA student packet, range fees, targets. Student will provide: Rifle and minimum 50 rounds of ammunition, owners manual, cleaning kit, lockable storage case, eye and ear protection. Ammunition may be purchased at class time.

Tim Ernst is a NRA-certified instructor in rifle and pistol with 20+ years of firearms experience. Tim has taught youth in Rifle at the Falls Township Rifle and Pistol Association, he’s an Endowment Member of NRA, and a FTRP member for over 15 years (trap, sporting clays, rifle, pistol, plinking). I have over 20 years of experience with hunting (bear, deer, waterfowl) and firearms. Initially trained in the U.S. Navy. He’s also quite active in his community as a volunteer firefighter/engineer, former Safety Officer and Director at a local fire company.
